Program Description :
The Journalism program develops students' critical thinking skills, enabling them to use these skills in a comprehensible and responsible way in gathering, analyzing and editing information in a multi-media environment. The primary aim of the program is to train students to be intelligent, responsible and articulate journalists. The program emphasizes the importance of the relationship between theory and practice. Students are encouraged to develop their skills through the use of print and electronic publications. The practical side of the program focuses on writing, editing, preparing for publication, interviewing, news selection, photography and preparing print and online publications using new technologies. The theory-based side of the program focuses on media regulation, journalism ethics, critical thinking, economics and history. The program is also structured to ensure that there is no gap between students' educational and practical experiences, so that graduates have a wide range of career and educational options.
Admission and Registration Requirements :
High school graduates are centrally placed in the Department of Journalism with Verbal score.
Recognition of Prior Education:
In order to make a horizontal or vertical transfer to the Journalism undergraduate program, it is obligatory to meet the entrance requirements for transfer students. In this regard, the relevant articles of Selçuk University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations are valid.
Graduation Requirements :
In order to graduate, students must complete a total of 240 ECTS courses in eight semesters. In the summer term at the end of the third year, students can do an optional internship.
Measurement and Evaluation Principles:
Students are entitled to a midterm, final and make-up exam from each course. The passing grade is calculated by adding 40 percent of the midterm grade and 60 percent of the final grade. In order to be successful in a course, at least 60 points must be obtained. Students with a score between 50-59 can pass conditionally. In practical courses, exams can be carried out in practice, taking into account the same scoring rates.
Employment Opportunities :
The Journalism program prepares its graduates to work as reporters, photojournalists, editors, researchers and copywriters who can work independently in all types of media. Journalism graduates can work in radio, television, non-governmental organizations, political parties and especially in print and online newspapers.

Students who graduate from the department have the opportunity to do master's, non-thesis master's and doctorate in the field of journalism.
