Hosted by Selçuk University, a program themed "A Decade of Privacy: Designing the Future with Privacy" was organized within the scope of the 10th anniversary of the enactment of the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK). In the program held with the participation of the President of the Personal Data Protection Authority Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir, SU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ak, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Berrin Akbulut, KVKK members, academicians, and students, attention was drawn to the importance of data privacy in the digitalizing world and the responsibilities of public institutions and universities in this field.

Delivering the opening speech of the program held at the Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ak pointed out that the digital age brings serious risks alongside the conveniences it offers. Emphasizing that the culture of sharing should be managed within the framework of certain rules, Prof. Dr. Ak said, "If there are no rules in this age where everything is shared recklessly, privacy becomes the most important and fundamental priority." Touching upon the importance of the 10-year contribution of KVKK to the legal system, Prof. Dr. Ak stated that the program will shed light on future studies.

Evaluating the current state of personal data protection awareness in Turkey, KVKK President Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir said that the works carried out are not only administrative acts but also a shield protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of society. Sharing the activities carried out by the Authority since its establishment with current figures, Bilir stated, "Since 2017, 60,586 applications have been received. 58,000 of these have been concluded. 1,944 data breach notifications were submitted to the Authority, 410 of which were announced. As a result of the examinations, an administrative sanction of approximately 1 billion 323 million 759 thousand liras was applied. A total of 57 guidelines and documents were published."

Following the opening speeches, the panels held in two sessions commenced. In the first session moderated by Court of Cassation Member Talip Bakır, Ministry of Justice Deputy Director General Hakan Şeker explained the roadmap of the legislative amendment process, while KVKK Head of Department Ezgi Ergüneş Duran addressed the harmonization processes between Law No. 6698 and GDPR. KVKK Board Member Cennet Alas Şekerbay shared her predictions regarding the second decade of the law.

In the second session moderated by Selçuk University Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Berrin Akbulut, Prof. Dr. Sinan Sami Akkurt evaluated digitalization, the development of data protection law, and the transformation of the right to privacy, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Çelik evaluated the legal framework of the right to privacy. KVKK Head of Department Tuba Kendir Tunalı also informed the participants about the 10-year application experience and future vision. Following the sessions, certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers.
