A cooperation protocol was signed between Selçuk University and Sarayönü Municipality for the dissemination and long-term preservation of heirloom seeds in Sarayönü, Konya and Turkey.

The protocol aims to collect heirloom (local) seeds, carry out herbal production, evaluate the products, store the seeds, disseminate heirloom seeds, carry out studies at all stages related to agricultural production, and develop and implement strategies in the field of agricultural education.

Within the scope of the protocol, it is aimed to support master's and doctoral thesis projects that can contribute to the development of Sarayönü district, provide land allocation for growing heirloom seeds and conducting research, provide opportunities for technical trips and field studies of Selçuk University Sarayönü Vocational School students and faculty members and farmers, and to modernize the greenhouse within Selçuk University Sarayönü Vocational School.

Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy stated at the ceremony held at the Rector's Office that, as Selçuk University, they are a university that aims to be a pioneer in all studies in the region. In this context, Prof. stated that they signed a protocol with Sarayönü Municipality for the storage, dissemination, planting and scientific studies of heirloom seed. Dr. Aksoy said, “The scientific studies we carry out within the scope of the protocol will be followed by Selçuk University. We will also contribute to scientific studies in this direction in master's and doctoral theses. "I wish you good luck and hope that we can step into new projects more quickly with Sarayönü Municipality."

Sarayönü Mayor Nafiz Solak said: “I am very happy to sign a protocol with the university I graduated from. As Sarayönü district, we are the closest district to our university. I find this protocol very important for our district. A more reliable, scientific data source will be created for us. Our protocol will hopefully be the beginning of good developments. I wish it to be beneficial and blessed.”

Following the speeches, the ceremony where the cooperation protocol was signed was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat, and Heirloom Seed Project Coordinator Assistant Professor Hayati Akman from Sarayönü Vocational School Seed Production Program.
