Take Action Youth Festival' begins to fight addiction
Organized with the theme of “Combating Addiction and Youth” with the cooperation of Selçuk University and Seljuk Youth Council, the Selcuk University Take Action Youth Festival to Combat Addiction has started. Within the scope of the festival, which will last for 2 days, activities such as activities and workshops on healthy living habits, conferences, panels, concerts, competitions and theater performances will be organized.
Selcuk University Rector Prof Dr. Metin Aksoy, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, Prof. Dr. Ilhan Ciftci, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, Konya Deputy Mufti Ahmet Demirel, Selçuklu Municipality City Council President Cem Hayırlıoğlu, deans, academic staff and students attended the opening program of the festival supported by different institutions and organizations
The program started with the performance of the Selçuklu Youth Center Folk Dance team of the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.
Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, in the opening program held at the Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center, stated that the fight against addiction is a sensitive issue and thanked the institutions and organizations that contributed to the organization of the festival. Stating that the festival is the first to raise awareness about the fight against addiction in terms of its content, Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, “We are aware that we have a great responsibility in the fight against addiction. We take care to fulfill our responsibility in this regard with the academic studies, social and cultural activities we organize. We accept art, social and cultural activities as an integral part of academic education; With this understanding, we aim to raise respectful, moral and conscious individuals who act in accordance with our social values. I believe that this meaningful symposium, which is a first in its field in the national and international arena, will be instrumental in raising awareness on the fight against addiction. As Selcuk University, I would like to state that we are always ready to support all projects and studies that will benefit and benefit our students and society.” he said.
On behalf of Selcuk University Commission on Combating Addiction, Health Services Vocational School Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Hatice Deveci Şirin also said that addiction is considered as a moral weakness, and today it is accepted as a chronic brain disease that harms the human body, mental health and social relations. Stating that the definition of addiction as a disease brings preventive and protective approaches to the fight against addiction, Şirin noted that the studies developed in this context gain importance.
Selcuklu Municipality City Council President Cem Hayirlıoğlu stated that social media addiction has been added to known addictions recently. Hayrioğlu explained that addictions affect the future of society, including physical and mental health, material and spiritual values of the individual.
After the speeches, the clip of Onur Kahvecioğlu, which was shot within the scope of the festival and whose music was recorded, was watched. Afterwards, a gift was presented to the musician Onur Kahvecioğlu and his team that supported the festival with his concert.
After the program here, stands opened by institutions, organizations and student societies in front of the Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center were visited.
