Selçuk University (SU) Faculty of Medicine Hospital physicians, healthcare professionals and patient relatives released colorful balloons into the sky to draw attention to primary immunodeficiency, which is described as "hereditary immune system deficiency".

The meeting organized by SU Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Immunology and Allergy within the scope of April 22-29 Primary Immunodeficiency Awareness Week was attended by SU Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selvi, Vice Deans Prof. Dr. İnci Kara, Prof. Dr. Nadire Ünver Doğan, physicians, healthcare professionals and patient relatives attended.

SU Faculty of Medicine, Pediatric Immunology and Allergy Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Hasibe Artaç said at the meeting held in front of the Chief Physician's Office that they aimed to ensure early diagnosis and treatment of primary immunodeficiency, to inform patients and families about the disease, and to raise awareness among citizens. Stating that primary immune deficiency can increase susceptibility to infection and cause damage by affecting important organs, especially the respiratory system, skin and intestines. Dr. Artaç said, “These diseases can also lead to fatal infections. It is stated that approximately 6 million people worldwide suffer from primary immunodeficiency. “These diseases affect approximately one percent of the entire population.” said.

Artaç stated that balloon flying events were organized all over the world during Primary Immunodeficiency Awareness Week. Explaining that each flying balloon represents the patients who reached early treatment, were diagnosed and followed up, Artaç said, “With the support of the Turkish National Allergy and Clinical Immunology Association, we, as Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Immunology and Allergy, together with our entire Hospital, are making a contribution to raise awareness in this event.” We want it to be. “I thank all of you very much for your participation in the event.” he said.
