Rector Aksoy met with members of the press

Selcuk University (SU) Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy met with members of the press at the “2021-2022 Evaluation and Information Meeting”.

Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, at the meeting held at the Keykubad Mansion, said that they are trying to carry out the studies and activities carried out for the development of the University in the best way possible. Stating that Selcuk University is in the 100+ band in the world and in the top 4 in Turkey in terms of education quality, according to the 2022 impact rankings published by Times Higher Education (THE), Prof. Dr. Aksoy stated that as a University, they were entitled to receive the Institutional Accreditation Certificate from the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK). Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, “The education quality of our university has been accredited by YÖKAK and documented. We received this accreditation as of yesterday. It is valuable for us that our university is included in the rankings of THE and similar institutions. We care about and evaluate these rankings. In this context, we made changes in many units of our university. We care about national and international accreditations. We also strive to ensure that all our units are accredited.”

“FREE CONSULTING FOR TEKNOFEST AND TUBITAK PROJECTS”

Stating that a budget of 30 million TL was allocated for Scientific Research Projects for the first time in the history of the University, commercialization was achieved for the first time with the mass production of the study on the coating of implant surfaces with bioactive material in cooperation with Konya Teknokent. Prof. Dr. Aksoy stated that Turkey's 4th Gene Therapy Center was established within the University. Prof. Dr. Aksoy emphasized that they won 3 awards in the fields of educational technologies, health and first aid and agricultural technologies at TEKNOFEST. Explaining that Selcuk University will provide financial support and free technical consultancy services to TEKNOFEST and TUBITAK 2242 Student Research Projects under the leadership of Konya Teknokent, under the main sponsorship of Konya Chamber of Commerce, Konya Commodity Exchange and Konya Chamber of Industry. He also made statements about infrastructure-superstructure, education-training, social-cultural studies.

“OUR FACULTY CONSTRUCTIONS CONTINUE”

Prof. Dr. Aksoy continued: “We opened Merve Mercan Park with the participation of our student's family. We brought the saplings together with the soil in memory of our staff and students who passed away during the epidemic period not only in Merve Mercan but also in all other units. We have completed our work to make our University a more livable campus through wireless internet service, USB charging stations and sports equipment, 600 square meters of ornamental pool and 1,200 meters of jogging in the 32 thousand square meter park. The building construction of our Faculties of Pharmacy and Islamic Sciences continues. The rough construction of our Islamic Sciences Faculty is finished, thank goodness. The building of the Faculty of Pharmacy continues at full speed. We do our Islamic Sciences Faculty entirely with donations. We repaired and renovated our swimming pool in cooperation with Spor Toto. We repaired and renovated our 19th of May Sports Hall. We did all of this with donations from outside. Our lodgings have been restored. Our amphitheater called 'amphitheater' built in the 90s was repaired. We will continue to work on afforestation with the saplings we have grown in our own park gardens. We are striving for our campus to be a clean campus for our clean Konya.”

“WE CARE ABOUT DIGITALIZATION”

Noting that they separated the Selcuk University Medical Faculty Hospital and the campus road with the cooperation of Karatay Municipality, Rector Prof. Dr. Aksoy said that the campus was surrounded by wires for security reasons. Stating that the Disabled Oral and Dental Health Unit of Selcuk University Dentistry was established in Beyhekim Hospital, Prof. Dr. Aksoy said,“We are the University with the largest number of units in districts in Turkey. In this context, internet speed has been increased by 25 percent across vocational schools. The website was one of the most important steps in digitalization for us. We launch our new website on Monday. We are developing our mobile application. We are renewing our student automation system. These studies including the support we provide for distance education were among our priorities as management. With the support of Kamil Akkanat, the additional building of Huğlu Vocational School was completed. Our budget was increased by 51 percent. Selcuk University's 2022 budget was increased to over 1 billion liras. Thermal camera and security drone with night vision were purchased, patrols were increased.”

“WE HAVE SIGNED 79 COOPERATIONS”

Prof. Dr. Aksoy stated that a simulation training center was established, which is a first among state universities, and that virtual reality can be used in education with the center worth 11 million TL. Stating that 3 million lira has been invested in distance education and information processing infrastructure, they have signed 79 collaborations, 34 of which were from abroad. Dr. Aksoy emphasized that saving devices have been developed within the scope of the Smart and Green Campus Project. Stating that with the Interpreting Laboratory established at the School of Foreign Languages, the needs of 4 departments for simultaneous translation were met, Prof. Aksoy pointed out that 405 staff, 314 of whom are academic and 91 of whom are administrative, were recruited to the University.

“WE RECEIVED 97.5 MILLION LIRA DONATION”

Prof. Dr. Aksoy said within the framework of social-cultural studies, the Take Action Against Addiction Festival, a first in Turkey, created a great awareness; he also stated that they have carried out many social projects with stakeholders such as SOBE Foundation and Beyhekim Hospital. Prof. Dr. Aksoy said: “We want to involve our donors in the business. Our President said, 'Let the rectors find external resources, find donors and do their work in this way'. In this sense, we have received donations of 97.5 million TL in one year. We have carried out such activities by receiving donations of 97.5 million TL, both in kind and in cash, to our university. We have made our night and day for our hometown, our university. We fixed staffing issues. We supported the projects of our academicians. We sought our donors first, not public resources. I would like to thank the donors and local administrators of Konya. God bless them.”

Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat and General Secretary Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk accompanied him.
