Selçuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy evaluated the one year he left behind during his term of office at a press conference. Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, "Our goal is to carry our university, which brings together tradition and the future, to even higher ranks." Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, "As Selçuk University, we want to be one of the most important research centers in the region, which has completed its infrastructure in scientific studies, develops its own software and automation, and follows the changes in the global sense."

             "OUR GOAL IS TO PREPARE OUR YOUTH FOR THE FUTURE"

Rector of Selçuk University Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, who met with members of the press at the Keykubat Mansion on the Alaeddin Keykubat Campus of Selçuk University, emphasized that Selçuk University, which has 23 faculties, 7 institutes, 5 colleges, 1 conservatory, 22 vocational schools, 54 research and application centers, is one of the largest educational institutions in Türkiye with more than 68 thousand students, 2 thousand 960 academic and 4 thousand 29 administrative staff. Aksoy said: "Our dream is that our young people, the guarantee of the future of the country, grow up as individuals who firmly embrace their past and build the future with superior equipment. Since the date we took office, the tenure problem of our academicians has been solved to a great extent. In this process, a total of 234 academic staff, including 45 professors, 78 associate professors, 85 doctoral faculty members, 5 lecturers and 21 research assistants, were added to our university. In order to use public resources effectively and efficiently, a total of 22 vehicles used in the units of Selçuk University were towed to the parking lot of our University's "Vehicle Management Directorate" and used for service purposes. In addition, no new tenders will be issued for 15 leased vehicles whose contracts will expire at the end of this month. A tender was held for the sale of 16 vehicles within our university that have expired their economic life. Our University, which is an example with the steps it has taken in the efficient use of public resources and environmental cleaning, has implemented a new application. Six electric vehicles allocated for use in Alaeddin Keykubat Campus were put into service. It is aimed to increase this number up to 10 in the following period. Bank promotions were distributed equally to all academic and administrative staff."

                   "WE ARE WORKING DAY AND NIGHT FOR THE LOCAL VACCINE"

Reminding that Prof. Dr. Osman Erganiş, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Director of Selçuk University Vaccine Development Application and Research Center, and his team continue to work on inactive vaccines by isolating the 'SARS-CoV-2' virus with their project, Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said, "The trials of the prepared vaccines on experimental animals have been completed and Phase studies have started. Efforts are underway to start production of the vaccine in 2021. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadir Koçak, a faculty member of the Department of Medical Genetics at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, and his team developed a vaccine project with mRNA properties against Covid-19. The project has reached the stage of animal experiments and studies are ongoing. The "Pandemic Diagnosis Follow-Up Unit" was put into service at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine. In this way, all Covid-related procedures of patients (such as sampling, blood tests, direct radiography, tomography) can be performed in this unit without entering the hospital."

                      "WE USE PUBLIC RESOURCES IN THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY"

Prof. Dr. Aksoy stated that Selçuk University has managed to enter the top 400 in the world among the young universities under the age of 50. "Our university is also in the top 400 in the ranking of Asian universities. Within the scope of the cooperation protocol aiming to develop animal husbandry in Konya, Selçuk University and Konya Metropolitan Municipality brought 25 cattle to the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Orhan Düzgüneş Research and Application Facility.  "Alo Ziraat Farmer Information Line" was established within the Faculty of Agriculture. Thus, it was aimed to create an agricultural memory so that farmers can access the right information and facilitate the solution of problems. Our goal is to become a self-sufficient University. The total debt of our Faculty of Medicine Hospital was reduced from 202 million TL to 50 million TL within a year. Electricity, natural gas and water debts of over 7 million TL, which had not been paid in recent years, were paid. Our university has no debt in this area. In November 2020, the full-fledged "Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital" with a construction area of 11 thousand 182 m² and a seating area of 3 thousand 600 m² was put into service. In terms of size and equipment, our new hospital ranks first in terms of animal hospitals in the pet field in Turkiye and in the forefront in Europe. Within the framework of the 2021 investment program, 30 million TL was allocated for the 10 thousand m² building project of the Faculty of Pharmacy of our University."

"MERVE MERCAN'S NAME WILL BE KEPT ALIVE IN THE PARK ON CAMPUS"

Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said in his speech: "Selçuk University will keep the name of Merve Mercan, a 6th year intern student of the Faculty of Medicine who lost her life, alive in the park to be built on the campus. The park to be built with the support of Selçuklu Municipality will be named "Merve Mercan". The construction of the park near the Rectorate Building and Campus Mosque on Alaeddin Keykubat Campus has started. The 45 thousand 212 m² park will have a seating and resting area, a walking path and a waterway. With the agreement made between our university and Microsoft, all our students and academic staff can download and use Microsoft Office 365 software free of charge. Digital archive conversion works were carried out at Selçuk University Erol Güngör Library. With this project, access to newspapers that witnessed historical events was provided. The pages of approximately 25 thousand newspapers, which will be transferred to the internet in PDF format after scanning, can be downloaded effortlessly by anyone who wishes."

            "WE DID NOT VICTIMIZE OUR STUDENTS DURING THE PANDEMIC"

Noting that hybrid education and distance education models were implemented in the 2020-2021 spring semester at Selçuk University, where face-to-face education was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, "Authorization procedures from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for the training aircraft in the inventory of our university were completed and PIC flights started. When we took office, there was a plane but no license. We took the necessary steps on the issue. Security measures have been increased to ensure the safety of life and property of the staff and students at Selçuk University Alaeddin Keykubat Campus and to establish peace and security within the campus. Neighborhood roads passing through the campus were closed. The work on the separation of the vehicle entrances and exits of the Faculty of Medicine Hospital from the main campus entrance has reached the final stage. Aksoy: An application was made to TSE for the "Safe Campus Certificate". Some of the outer borders of the campus have been closed with a wire fence, the remaining part is at the tender stage. The transcripts, student documents and certificates of our students studying at our university have been made available and accessible in e-Government for easy access and digitalization. As Selçuk University, we want to be one of the most important research centers in the region, which has completed its infrastructure in scientific studies, develops its own software and automation, follows global changes."
