Selcuk University Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held with the participation of Chairman of the Council of Higher Education Özvar

Selcuk University 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony, was held with the participation of Chairman of the Council of Higher Education Professor Erol Özvar. Drawing attention to the deep-rooted history and potential of Selcuk University, Özvar stated that it has performed successfully in academic studies and projects.

At the ceremony held at the Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center, Özvar stated that Turkey has shown a significant development in higher education in the last 22 years.

Chairman of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Özvar, "Konya has become one of our leading cities in this regard with a total of 5 universities, 3 of which are state and 2 of which are foundations, about five thousand academicians and more than 120 thousand students in our city. In a sense, Konya has the identity of being a university city and it deserves this identity very much. The role played by Selçuk University in the formation of this identity is especially important. Selcuk University is one of the 6 universities currently included in the 'Research University Candidate Monitoring Program'. A short time ago, the ‘University Monitoring and Evaluation General Report for 2024’ was shared with the public by our Board. In this report, Selcuk University has shown that it has performed successfully in some areas, especially the number of doctoral graduates, student participation in social responsibility projects, the number and diversity of projects, sustainability,” he said.

Rector of Selcuk University, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz emphasized that the university's fundamental principle is academic excellence, highlighting its rich history and dynamic structure. Yılmaz stated, “We are determined to maintain the highest standards in education. Our status as a ‘Candidate Research University’ increases our responsibility to advance our scientific endeavors and academic goals. I want to express that we will continue to work tirelessly to achieve our goal of becoming a research university and a globally recognized center of science. I would like to underline that the vision of the Turkish Century, set by our President, serves as a roadmap for us at this point. While taking steps to strengthen our country’s leadership in science, technology, and education, our university will be an important stakeholder in this vision. In this context, our primary roadmap is the 2030 vision determined under the leadership of President Özvar. Here, development in digital transformation, sustainability, international collaborations, and innovative educational models are among our top priorities,” he said.

After the speeches, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz presented a gift to YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. The program held at Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center was attended by Konya Governor İbrahim Akın, Chief Public Prosecutor Halil İnal, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, YÖK Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan, KTO Karatay University Rector Prof. Dr. Fevzi Rifat Ortaç, Konya Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik, Konya Food and Agriculture University Rector Prof. Dr. Erol Turan, Necmettin Erbakan University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Hidayet Oğuz, along with numerous academics and students.
