Selcuk University Electric Vehicle received the Visual Design Award at TEKNOFEST
Selcuk University MYS Sancak Team won the “Visual Design Award” with its electric vehicle named “Alparslan” at the TÜBİTAK Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races organized within the scope of TEKNOFEST.
Continuing his studies within the scope of Selçuk University Faculty of Technology, National and Local Sanjak Group (Yerli ve Milli Sancak Topluluğu - MYS) Sanjak Team Advisor Dr. Instructor Member Hakan Terzioğlu said in his statement that the team consisted of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design students. Stating that the Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races, organized by TÜBİTAK, were held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, Terzioğlu stated that as Selcuk University, they have been participating in competitions in the "electromobile" and "hydromobile" categories for two years. Terzioğlu explained that they carried out their team work intensively for 10 months at the Faculty of Technology and Automotive Technologies Research and Application Center. Terzioğlu said, “As a result of the collaboration of Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering students in the production of our vehicle, we worked for 4 months to design a vehicle with low CFD value and a candidate for the Visual Design Award. The production of the resulting design continued for about 4 months, and we made minor touches to the design during the production process. We restored our vehicle, which we named 'Alparslan', to its final form. During the design of our vehicle, our Mechanical Engineering Department students; Mechanical components such as chassis and suspension were designed and analyzed, and according to the results of the analysis, our University made use of the facilities and processing centers in the industry. Simultaneously with the studies on mechanical parts, Electrical-Electronics Engineering students worked in 5 different fields: HUB Motor Design, Battery Control System Design, Onboard Charger Design, Driver Circuit Design and Vehicle Control System Design. As a result of these studies, 4 designs that won 3 localities in the competition were realized by our students.”
Dr. Instructor Terzioğlu stated that "Alparslan" had the distinction of being the only vehicle among the universities in Konya to take to the track at TEKNOFEST. Noting that the vehicle is also supported by the Selçuk University Scientific Research Projects Coordinatorship, Terzioğlu said that the Selçuk University family had been one heart from the stage of dreaming to the award stage.
Dr. Instructor Member Hakan Terzioğlu thanked especially Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy who supperted MYS Sancak Team’s works from the very beginning, and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat, Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. Dr. Şakir Taşdemir and the Director of Automotive Technologies Research and Application Center Prof. Dr. Süleyman Neşeli.
“THEY WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE OUR CITY PROUD AS LONG AS THEY WORK FOR AND MEAN TO ADOPT IT”
Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy congratulated the MYS Sancak Team on the success of TEKNOFEST and said: “As Selcuk University, we prioritize raising conscious and well-equipped young people based on national and locality, who will contribute to the national technology move of our country. For this reason, I view the success we achieved in the TÜBİTAK Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races organized within the scope of TEKNOFEST as a turning point for our University. It was also important to experience the same excitement on the field with our students in the process from the preparation stage of our electric vehicle 'Alparslan' until it was deemed worthy of the Visual Design Award, as it once again proved that our University is a family with all its components. However, the meaning of this success for our city should not be overlooked because universities not only reflect the identity of cities, but also have an impressive position in the formation of this identity. In other words, there is a relationship between the city and the university that feeds each other. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate this success of our University as a threshold that has been crossed for our city Konya and a leap into the future. As Selcuk University, we will continue to support our students at an increasing rate to contribute to the national technology move of our country. I believe that when we work together and embrace them, our students will continue to achieve national and international success under the supervision of our expert professors and make both our University and our city proud.”
“WE AIM TO TRAIN CONSCIOUS AND EQUIPPED ENGINEERS”
Selcuk University Faculty of Technology Dean Prof. Dr. Şakir Taşdemir stated that they aim to train conscious and well-equipped engineers in line with Turkey's domestic and national technology targets and said: “Our faculty continues to produce solutions suitable for the problems of industry and business life by supporting the industry with research and development projects based on university-industry cooperation. I sincerely congratulate all our team members and students, especially the advisors of our teams, who participated in the Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races on behalf of our university and worked day and night with devotion. Our faculty is increasing its efforts and support day by day in order to support our country's efforts in line with the goal of national technology move and to train students with this awareness.”
