Selçuk University ranked first in Türkiye with 37 flags at the " Barrier-Free University Flags Award Ceremony" organized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy received the first prize from YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar at the ceremony.

"Barrier-Free University Flags" and "Barrier-Free Program Order" are the awards given in order to determine the studies carried out to ensure the full, effective and equal participation of disabled individuals within the university campus boundaries, to reward those who are successful and to raise public awareness in two categories.

In his speech at the Barrier-Free University Flags  Award Ceremony, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar said that a total of 1091 applications were made from 97 universities for the Barrier-Free University Awards this year. Stating that 56 universities were entitled to receive a total of 295 flags in the evaluation made by 47 panelists, Prof. Dr. Özvar said, "152 of these flags were the orange flag for accessibility in space, 92 were the green flag for accessibility in education and 51 were the blue flag for accessibility in socio-cultural activities."

   "WE CARE ABOUT ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR ALL OUR STUDENTS"

Prof. Dr. Özvar stated that the studies carried out in order to enable students with disabilities to fully benefit from educational opportunities and to support their participation in education are valuable and said, "In order to remove obstacles, it is among the most important duties of our universities to know the number of students with disabilities in our higher education system and their disability status, to take measures accordingly and to reach our students. We see that they continue to work on accessibility with the coordinatorships and different units they have established within their own organizations. We need to be aware that we need to make a greater effort to make education and program content accessible for students with different disabilities. We care about the access of all our students to higher education, and we are making great efforts to provide a barrier-free education and training environment for students with disabilities and to develop incentive studies and projects to ensure their participation in social and cultural activities."

Selçuk University received 14 flags in the field of "Accessibility in Education", 11 flags in the field of "Accessibility in Space" and 12 flags in the field of "Accessibility in Socio-Cultural Activities". Selçuk University, which won 9 flags in the "Barrier-Free University Awards" held in 2022, proved its success once again by winning a total of 37 flags in the awards organized this year.
