Selcuk University and TUBA sign protocol

A protocol was signed between Selçuk University and the Turkish Academy of Sciences to grant scholarships to Turkologists working abroad who are not Turkish citizens. With the protocol, Turkologists will have the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues in Turkey.

Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy and TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker signed the protocol between Selçuk University and the Turkish Academy of Sciences regarding the TÜBA Turkology Research Support Program. With the protocol, which will be valid for one year, scholarships will be given to Turkologists working abroad who are not Turkish citizens within the scope of the Turkology Research Support Program carried out by TÜBA. Within the scope of the scholarship program, Turkologists who are not Turkish citizens will be able to conduct joint studies with the relevant faculty members in Turkey in all state and foundation universities in Turkey in the subjects and fields determined by the Academy Council every year.

SELÇUK UNIVERSITY WILL ASSUME THE SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE RESEARCH

The evaluation of the applications for the TÜBA Turkology Research Support Program and the determination of the scholarship recipients will be carried out within the scope of the evaluation criteria set forth by the Scholarship Evaluation Committee established by the Academy Council. Among the candidates recommended by the evaluation committee, those who are deemed worthy of a scholarship will be determined and decided by the Academy Council. Turkologists who are deemed worthy of the fellowship will be provided with a monthly stipend of USD 750 for three months and round-trip airfare by TÜBA. Selçuk University, which will assign a consultant faculty member for the scholars selected by TÜBA, will also provide accommodation to the selected scholars during the 3 months they continue their research in Turkey. In addition, Selçuk University will be responsible for all academic processes such as the academic success and scientific responsibility of the research carried out.

"WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO TRANSFER OUR CULTURE TO FUTURE GENERATIONS"

Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy stated that Turcology, which has a great importance in terms of learning the history and past of Turks, is a very important branch of science for each Turk to know himself and to build a bridge between the past and the future. Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said, "Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our country, had Fuad Köprülü establish the Institute of Turcology Studies in that most troubled period after the establishment of the Republic. In other words, we can easily say that the foundation of the Republic of Turkey was mixed with the mortar of Turkology. Because Gazi Mustafa Kemal was aware that Turkology was directly related to the survival of Turks. As Selçuk University, we aim to conduct and carry out research studies in the fields of Turkish literature, Turkish language, dialects and dialects, Turkish Republics and communities, Turkish history, Turkish folk culture; to monitor the development of our country in the field of literature and culture from past to present; to make the achievements in this field sustainable and to create a discussion environment for researchers and to ensure their expansion into the future. In line with these objectives, the support we have given to the "Turkish Academy of Sciences" to date will continue in the future. Let no one doubt that we will do our best to keep the legacy of Mehmet Fuat Köprülü, Zeki Velidi Togan and Reşid Rahmeti Arat alive with great vitality and to pass it on to future generations. In this context, I wish that this protocol we have signed will be beneficial to our country and nation."

Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, President of TÜBA, also wished that the protocol signed with Selçuk University would be beneficial.
