Journalists working in the Azez region of Syria were trained on digital tools and media literacy by the cooperation of Selcuk University and Yunus Emre Institute. In the second part of the program, 15 journalists who came to Konya had the opportunity to see the works in the workplace at the Radio and Television Application Centre of Selcuk University.

"JOURNALISTS NEED TO CONVEY ACCURATE INFORMATION"

Pointing out that it is important for Turkey and Syria that journalists in the war zone convey the right information to the public, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selman Selim Akyüz said, "We first went to the Azez district of Syria within the scope of the project. We gave them some additional information about what needs to be done in this process. We hope that through this project, which is realized in cooperation with Selcuk University and Yunus Emre Institute, the bridge between the peoples of Turkey and Syria will be further strengthened."

The first phase of the training program "Digital Tools and Media Literacy for Journalists" conducted by Selcuk University and Yunus Emre Institute was held in Azez, in Syria on August 8th – 9th – 10th. The second part of the program was conducted in Konya by the hospitality of Selcuk University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sefa Doğru the director of SERATEM and one of the academics of Faculty of Fine Arts and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selman Selim Akyüz as an academics of Faculty of Communication shared his knowledge and experiences with 15 journalists working in the region. The guest journalists were also trained on issues such as creating short film scripts, media literacy and disinformation.

"THE TRAINING IN KONYA WILL LAST 3 DAYS"

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sefa Doğru said, "The Konya phase of the trainings started on August 15th. It continued for 3 days. We gave trainings on topics such as creating short film scripts and media literacy. Then we had a lesson on how to turn these theoretical trainings into practice. We find the trainings very important in terms of how journalists in the war zone view the world and Turkey, and strengthening Turkey's presence there. We were happy to be there on behalf of our state and our university."

Muhammad Nour Mamou, one of the journalists who participated in the training, said: "We learned new information and met new friends during the events in Azez and Turkey. We benefited from social media. We learned the techniques and stages of script production, the advantages of newspapers and radio. We benefited a lot." Alaa Hattab pointed out that the trainings were very important for them and noted that they were able to examine television studios and technical units on site in Konya.
