Selcuk University hosts Islamic Solidarity Games
Selcuk University (SU) Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy participated in the opening of the Konya 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games "Games Village" organized with the presence of Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu. Selcuk University, in addition to providing accommodation services to guest athletes in the Konya 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games, will also host competitions and training sessions with sports facilities in different branches.
Within the scope of Minister Kasapoğlu's program, the Olympic swimming pool in Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium was opened for the first time. Then, the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games “Games Village” was opened in the Şemsi Tebrizi Student Dormitory at Alaeddin Keykubat Campus of Selcuk University.
Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Konya Deputy Dr. Leyla Şahin Usta, AK Party Konya Deputies Gülay Samancı, Selman Özboyacı, Orhan Erdem, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, Provincial Police Chief Engin Dinç, Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca, Selçuklu Mayor Ahmet Pekyatımcı, Selçuk University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, Sports Services General Manager Mehmet Baykan, Taekwondo Federation President, Selçuk University Faculty of Sports Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Metin Şahin, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Selcuk University, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Altıntaş, Konya Youth and Sports Provincial Director Abdurrahman Şahin and other protocol members attended.
Afterwards, the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games event promotion program was held at Kılıçarslan City Square.
SELÇUK UNIVERSITY WILL HOST COMPETITIONS
In the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, which will be held in Konya between 9-18 August 2022 with the participation of approximately 56 countries, 483 medals will be fought in 24 branches.
In this context, Selçuk University will host fencing matches at the 19 Mayıs Indoor Sports Hall and football matches at the 15 July Stadium. Swimmers will be able to use the swimming pool at the University for training. Selcuk University also offered dormitories at campus for the accommodation of guest athletes.
