Selçuk University (SU) Faculty of Veterinary Science Small Animal Hospital has diagnosed, treated and cared for a total of 20,250 animal friends, including 2,782 emergency cases so far in 2022. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Erdem, Chief Physician of Selçuk University Faculty of Veterinary Science Animal Hospital, said that the 11 thousand square meter Small Animal Hospital within the Faculty of Veterinary Science is the largest hospital in Türkiye in physical terms. Stating that they have a good level of academic and technical staff and technical equipment in diagnosis and treatment, Prof. Dr. Erdem said that they provide 24/7 service to patients.

Prof. Dr. Erdem noted that 60 percent of the patients admitted to the Small Animal Hospital are cats, 40 percent are dogs, exotic and wildlife animals, and that they carry out the diagnosis, treatment and care of all animals coming to the hospital.

Giving information about the units in the hospital, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Erdem said, "Our Small Animal Hospital has a total of 8 pre-examination rooms, 4 for cats and 4 for dogs. If it is deemed necessary, the examined animal is directed to treatment rooms, imaging units, central laboratory, X-ray or MRI units. We also have special examination units such as cardiology, dermatology, cytology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, dental examination, andrological examination. We are also one of the first teams in Turkiye to use ultrasound in animals. Our University Faculty of Veterinary Science Small Animal Hospital, which is in the format of an equipped small animal hospital in Turkiye and is among the few hospitals in Turkiye in terms of the number and diversity of incoming cases in 2021, has reached more than 20 thousand patients as of this year."

Explaining that in addition to providing a qualified health service to patients, they also offer a quality education opportunity to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, Prof. Dr. Erdem said: "When we look at the number of patient admissions, we have reached 20,250 as of the 51st week of this year. In addition to Konya, Karaman, Aksaray, Niğde, Nevşehir, Antalya, Mersin, Ankara, especially from Karaman, Niğde, Nevşehir, Antalya, Mersin, Ankara, and other surrounding provinces, our hospital receives a significant number of patients. We also have a protocol that we carry out jointly with Konya Metropolitan Municipality. Within the scope of the protocol, the first intervention in emergency cases of stray animals is made in our hospital. This provides us with a serious diversity of cases. The number of patients and case diversity also reflects positively on our ranking among veterinary faculties in university preferences."
