Selcuk University Faculty of Science and the Disabled Student Unit Coordinator for the children who are treated in the Medical Faculty Hospital Mehmet Emin Bakdemir Cerebral Palsy Unit, “Will you play with me?” event was held.

Selcuk University Faculty of Science Dean Prof. Dr. Semahat Küçükkolbaşı said, “We have 12 student societies in our faculty. All of them are active. We have a lot of volunteer students. We provide all kinds of support to our students. Our students said they wanted to be with the children and we took action. I think that our youth's awareness of society has increased. It is very important for students to take part in such activities. We aim to create a sense of responsibility in students towards social problems and values. We need to trust our young people and give them a role.”

“WE AIM TO PREVENT SOCIAL ISOLATION”

Zeliha Üzümcü, Coordinator of the Disabled Student Unit of Selcuk University, also said, "Will you play with me?" With the event, it is aimed that the children receiving treatment in the Mehmet Emin Bakdemir Cerebral Palsy Unit of the SU Medical Faculty Hospital and the volunteer students of the Faculty of Science spend time together, do social activities, approach the disabled with a sociological perspective as well as a medical perspective, support them from a psycho-social perspective, and facilitate the participation of the disabled who will be students in social life. We aim to prevent social isolation by raising awareness about peer bullying. With the project, we also aim to show that cerebral palsy does not prevent friendship, fun and learning, and to support children's families while ensuring their socialization.”

“THE FIRST CENTER OPENED WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL”

Selcuk University Medical Faculty Hospital Mehmet Emin Bakdemir Head of Cerebral Palsy Unit and Head of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Prof. Dr. Funda Levendoğlu said, “Our unit, which was opened on July 27, currently serves 40 patients. We serve patients with cerebral palsy and other pediatric patients who need physiotherapy. We have a service and it takes the patients from their homes free of charge and brings them to our unit, and leaves them home after the treatment. We serve all children between the ages of 0 – 17. 1 faculty member and 1 assistant work in our polyclinic. This is the first center opened within a university hospital in Turkey. This ensures that professional hands are on the kids without any profit motive. The development of children can be fully evaluated.”

Volunteer students studying at the Faculty of Science played games with the children in the Mehmet Emin Bakdemir Cerebral Palsy Unit of Selçuk University Medical Faculty Hospital and gave various gifts at the event.
