12 thousand saplings planted on SU Sarıcalar Research and Application Farm

In order to prevent wind erosion, 12 thousand cedar, acacia and oleaster saplings were planted in Sarıcalar Research and Application Farm within the body of Selçuk University Faculty of Agriculture.

Selcuk University Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof. Dr. Zeki Bayramoğlu said, “Due to the ecological structure of the 1,338-decare Sarıcalar Research and Application Farm, we encounter some difficulties during the production activity since it receives excessive wind. This wind hinders the applications during the growing phase of the plant. It causes erosion in tillage and irrigation. In order to prevent and reduce this wind, The Wind Erosion Project was prepared under the leadership of our teacher Prof. Dr. Cevdet Şeker. In this context, different trees are planted around the land and in three rows in between. A total of 12 thousand saplings, of which 6 thousand cedars are in the first place, 2 thousand acacias are in the second place, and 4 thousand spindles are in the third place, are brought together with the soil.”

“THE FARM IS USED AS A RESEARCH AREA”

Stating that Sarıcalar Research and Application Farm is used as a research area for academics and students, Prof. Dr. Bayramoğlu said, “There are experiments on activities such as fertilizer, seeds and irrigation systems. We allocated 100 square meters of space to each student. We provided the necessary tools and materials for production. Our volunteer students carried out production activities with the support of their advisors. Our students can also participate in the research of our professors.”
