A panel titled "Republic in the 100th Year" was organized by Selçuk University Faculty of Literature within the scope of 100 Events in the 100th Year of our Republic.

Dean of the Faculty of Literature Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Hacıgökmen, academicians and students attended the panel held at Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center.

Speaking at the panel, Prof. Dr. Ferudun Ata, Head of the Department of History of the Republic at Selçuk University Faculty of Letters, said: "The Republic is an important transformation in the history of the Turkish nation. Perhaps the Republic administration is an important milestone in the thousand-year history of the Turkish nation. The Republic of Turkey was not established easily. It was established after great heroism and sacrifice after many hardships, many troubles."

Selçuk University Faculty of Letters, Department of History Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağatay Benhür said, "Atatürk's foreign policy never broke away from realism, Turkey's capabilities and the international conjuncture were constantly taken into consideration. Especially in the 1930s, while following a very active foreign policy that would take the leadership in the region, a course of action that would be adventurous and drag the country back into turmoil was never adopted."

Stating that the Republic is also a modernization project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Arıkan, Faculty of Literature, Department of History, Selçuk University, said: "The Republic is the process of turning this modernization into a revolution under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. If we are talking about the Turkish revolution, its foundations were laid in the Ottoman Empire. Mustafa Kemal and the cadre led by him are the ones who realized the structural change of the Turkish state."
