A series of online events, including panels, interviews and conferences, were held at Selcuk University on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Arslan made an evaluation on “The Effects of the July 15 Coup Attempt on the Turkish Economy” under the moderation of Head of Economics Department Prof. Dr. Haldun Soydal. Arslan stated that the coup attempt was a process that was overcome with love for the homeland and nation, and explained that negative results were revealed in all academic studies on its impact on the economy.

“FETO IS A THREAT ELEMENT NOT ONLY TO TÜRKİYE, BUT TO THE TURKISH WORLD”

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vakur Sümer, made statements on “July 15 and the Turkish World” under the moderation of International Relations Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Şaban Halis Çalış. Describing July 15 as the day when the Turkish nation defended its state and stood tall, Sümer noted that Türkiye's communication with the Turkish world increased to a higher level after the coup attempt. Sümer stated that FETO is an element that threatens not only Türkiye, but also Turkish states.

“WE HAVE NO OTHER COUNTRY”

The event named “That Night as Narrated by the July 15 Veteran” was held by Selçuk University, Faculty of Tourism. At the event moderated by Lecturer Dr. Münevver Çiçekdağı from Faculty of Tourism, Department of Tourism Guidance. Stating that he was injured in his foot on the night of the coup attempt, and that night, as a nation, we tried to resist the coup attempt with a feeling close to the spirit of Çanakkale, Özen said “We are a nation with a state tradition, and we need to take care of the country we live in, no matter what its shortcomings are. We have no other country.”

“JULY 15 NEGATIVELY AFFECTED MANY SECTORS”

A panel titled “The Effects of July 15 on the Business World” was organized by Selçuk University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. In the panel held online and moderated by Prof. Dr. Muammer Zerenler, Lecturers of Vocational School of Social Sciences Assoc. Dr. Gökhan Akandere and Assoc. Dr. Abdurrahman Gümrah, and Lecturer of Tourism Faculty Assoc. Dr. Fatih Varol evaluated the effects of the business world after the July 15 coup attempt with analysis. In the symposium, where it was stated that coups caused social and economic crises in countries, the effects of July 15 on the growth rate and national income, employment, tradesmen and craftsmen and foreign trade were discussed. Borsa Istanbul, exchange rate and tourism sector were also evaluated at the symposium.

Within the scope of the events, the “July 15 Documentary” prepared by the Presidency was presented to the participants with an online program by the School of Foreign Languages. The documentary emphasized the victory of democracy.
