At Selçuk University Faculty of Dentistry, 150 students took their first steps into medicine at the "White Coat Wearing" ceremony organized on the occasion of November 22nd Dentistry Day and Community Oral and Dental Health Week.

Rector of Selçuk University Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, Seydişehir District Governor Deniz Pişkin, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İlhan Çiftci, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, Dean of SÜ Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Abdullah Kalaycı, Dean of Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Ali Rıza Tunçdemir, Dean of SÜ Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selvi, faculty members, students and their families attended the ceremony held at Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center.

The ceremony started with a Turkish Art Music concert by the Konya Turkish Sufi Music Ensemble under the General Directorate of Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Sema Belli stated that white symbolizes purity, cleanliness, strength, beauty and goodness and told the "Story of the White Coat".

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, Rector of Selçuk University, stated that the white coat is an important step towards caring for patients and becoming a physician. Prof. Dr. Aksoy wished the students to give a good education to the future generations and to practice the profession of medicine in the best way without breaking their ties with the past and said, "Konya, which was the seat of Seljuks, has instilled tolerance and our values in you. Selçuk University is an institution that has proven itself with its achievements in the field of education. We are a university that provides high level education at international standards. 'The morality of a nation is like a toothache. As you feel the pain, it becomes clear that the morality of that nation has collapsed. Therefore, we need to continue our lives by always protecting our core identity. We know that we will always cherish the value of our families who raised us. As Selçuk University, we try to convey these to you in order to protect our identity. In addition to this, I hope that you will know that we are on guard to carry the trust of our martyrs who made these lands our homeland to better places, and I hope that you will perform your profession in this way."

Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Abdullah Kalaycı said that dentistry is intertwined with treatment, art, aesthetics and psychology. Stating that the white coat brings with it responsibilities, Prof. Dr. Kalaycı expressed his belief that the students will carry the profession of dentistry forward in every field.

The ceremony, where plaques and certificates of high honor were presented, ended with 150 students being dressed in white coats.
