Ashura was served at Selçuk University
The Ashura offering event, traditionally held at Selçuk University, was held with intense participation.
Selçuk University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, Prof. Dr. İlhan Çiftci, General Secretary Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, academic and administrative staff, students and many citizens attended to the event organized by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken stated the importance of the month of Muharram for Türkiye and the Islamic world. Pointing out that there were developments that could change the course of history this month, Prof. Dr. Eken said, “The 10th of Muharram is the day Adam and Eve's prayer was accepted and Noah and his friends were saved from the flood. Again, it is very important that it is a month in which the Hijra begins and continues at the beginning of the month of Muharram, and the migration from Mecca to Medina takes place. Moses' salvation from Pharaoh is also an important event. This month is a little different from other months. We are in the most acceptable month for the worship to be done in this month, for example, the fast to be kept after Ramadan fasting. This also applies to prayers to be performed. According to Islamic historians and scientists, it is said to be a month that symbolizes abundance and plentitude. As Turkish citizens and Muslims, we distribute Ashura on the 10th of Muharram and perform this ritual."
Stating that such rituals also help Muslims come together and strengthen the bond of brotherhood, Prof. Dr. Eken said, “Our university was especially sensitive to this day. At this point, we held our Ashura offering event, which has become a tradition. I hope that such activities will continue to increase. It is very important that our traditions and customs continue. As Selçuk University, we attach particular importance to this."
