Selçuk University Faculty of Islamic Sciences organized a conference titled "Be Independent! - Addiction and Technology Addiction" conference.

Delivering the opening speech of the conference held at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences Conference Hall, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences Prof. Dr. Ramazan Altıntaş said, "In addition to addictions such as smoking, alcohol, substance abuse addiction, a new addiction has started in our age, which is called internet addiction. We are curious about the background of what is going on in the world, but apart from that, social media has become such that it has taken us to the extent of cutting off our social relations. At our homes, our mothers and fathers can hardly meet their children even for dinner. Everyone shares everything. There is no privacy left. Time is very important for a Muslim. We have almost stopped reading and writing. We cannot be friends with the books."

Guidance Counselor, Psychological Counselor and Green Crescent Formulator Tuba Kılıçarslan said: "Addiction is the loss of control over an object or an action that a person uses and the inability to live without it. Addiction is a disorder in which biological, psychological, social and behavioral factors play a role together. It is a medical syndrome. Will is disabled. All time and energy is spent on the addictive substance or activity, except for what needs to be done. For a long time, addiction was considered a personality disorder, but in recent years it has been recognized as a disease. Addiction is a disease that involves behavior. Because many neurochemical and neurophysiological changes have been detected in the brain related to addiction. Hereditary characteristics specific to addiction have been found. Addiction has its own specific course and treatment. For all these reasons, it would be correct to call addiction a disease. People are addicted to cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, technological devices, internet, medicines, gambling, food, work and other people."
