The Art of Understanding the Universe: Basic Sciences Congress" organized in cooperation with Selçuk University, Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) started with the hosting of Selçuk University. Sessions on basic sciences, seminars, poster and stand presentations, painting, design, theater and film activities will also be held in the congress.

Prof. Dr. Ülkü Sayın,The Chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee, Selçuk University Faculty of Science Faculty Member,  said that 2022 was declared the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development at the opening of the congress held at the Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center. Stating that they organized the congress hosted by Selçuk University in this context, Sayın said, "In this event, our earth will be treated as a mathematical model that completes its biological events by passing through chemical processes based on the laws of physics. For this purpose, our esteemed scientists will give training seminars, and our esteemed students will make poster and stand presentations. In addition, the basic sciences that we define as the art of understanding the universe; Music, painting, design, theater and film activities aiming to tell the picture with the actions of listen, touch, feel, see, taste will also be carried out. Our faculty members from different disciplines, undergraduate and graduate students, teachers and high school students, as well as valuable artists from different professional groups, came together to celebrate the year of basic sciences by feeling the magnificent unity of science and art.

Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, Rector of Selçuk University, stated that the University continues to support scientific studies. Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, "As in the previous periods, we strive to carry the flag we took over to better places and to leave a better university to future generations. As of today, as Selçuk University family, perhaps one of the most important indicators is the support we give to the studies and projects of our students and academicians in scientific research projects. We strive for the internationalization of our university. At the same time, we strive for them to receive education in a more spacious environment on campus and for our academics to breathe a little in this spacious environment. From the campus, physical space to the support of scientific projects, as the Selçuk University family, we are all working and striving for the future of our country. Today's congress is really a program that should be appreciated with  Prof. Dr. Ülkü Sayın’s work and efforts of. We have supported the organization of our congress to the end. On this occasion, I congratulate them and their team."

Dr. Şule Ürün, Secretary General of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, said: "I believe that the event will make students love basic sciences more and open their horizons. I think that our professors who will make presentations will be role-models for our students. This will contribute to the activation of UNESCO ideals in our country."

Prof. Dr. Muhsin Kar, President of YÖKAK, stated that they came together in a beautiful and meaningful organization and said "I think that in the coming years, the idea of sustainability will come to the forefront in the curricula of universities with a holistic understanding that will comprehend all from health, social sciences and engineering. In the coming years, it seems that whether universities have an approach to this issue within the framework of accreditation of quality assurance will also take place. Criteria are updated from time to time within the international framework. In that framework, these issues will become more important."

Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, said: "We conduc the International Year of Fundamental Sciences for Sustainable Development with awareness raising activities. Selçuk University has carried out a study that can be presented as an example of good work. The congress, which will end on October 12, 2022, continued with the "Awareness Session" after the opening ceremony.
