At a time when climate change is on the agenda, Selçuk University organized an important event for both our present and our future. One thousand 500 saplings were planted in the memorial forest created on behalf of the late writer and poet Abdurrahim Karakoç.

 

In cooperation with Selçuk University, Konya Regional Directorate of Forestry and Konya Provincial Directorate of Labor and Employment Agency, Selçuk University Alaeddin Keykubat Campus with the slogan "Life to Nature, Life to Saplings, Breath to the Future, Open to Education, Support to Employment"

 

A sapling planting event was organized in the Ardıçlı District afforestation area.

 

"OUR FORESTS WILL BE THE BREATH OF THE FUTURE"

 

Stating that they want to plant saplings that will breathe the future of our country, Konya Regional Director of Forestry Cafer Bal said, "We want to dedicate these saplings to Abdurrahim Karakoç. The most important agenda of the world is climate change and the protection of forest assets. Wherever a forest is damaged, we are all affected. We have gathered here to contribute to the green of our country. We will plant 1,500 saplings. Our forests will be a breath of fresh air for the future. In 2019, we planted 21 thousand saplings in this area with Selçuk University." 

 

"SAPLINGS ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL LIVING THINGS"

 

Konya Provincial Director of Labor and Employment Agency Emrah Keleş said, "We will plant hundreds of saplings in order to increase green areas, prevent erosion, and gain the habit of planting saplings. The saplings that will come to life in the soil in order to develop the love of trees and forests in our country, to contribute to the sensitivity of all segments of society to the environment and to raise awareness about the environment will be a breathing, shelter, education and employment area for all living things living in these lands in the future." 

 

"ABDURRAHIM KARAKOÇ WAS AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PERSON"

 

Prof. Dr. Enderhan Karakoç, Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Selçuk University, said: "I would like to thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy for his support in the creation of such a project and the inclusion of my late father's name in the project. It is promising for the future to commemorate literary/artistic personalities who have left their mark on all segments of Turkish society and have an important role in the upbringing of the youth with such events. My father was in love with mountains and nature in all his poems. He emphasized these in his poems. My father was a poet who was environmentally friendly, in love with his country and nation, and dedicated himself to this nation." 

 

"ONE TREE MEANS A THOUSAND BREATHS"

 

Selçuk University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken said, "I commemorate Abdurrahim Karakoç with mercy. He was a writer, poet, man of thought, a person who raised our country, who was a pioneer in raising a generation where all kinds of beauty were together, who was taken as an example in every aspect. A tree means a thousand breaths. It brings thousands of living things to life. Planting trees at a time when global warming is on the agenda is a sublime duty. The tree planting here is also very important for future generations. As Selçuk University, we will continue such activities." 

 

"OUR GOAL IS MORE GREEN HOMELAND"

 

AK Party Konya Deputy Halil Etyemez, who stated that projects that can protect the future of our country and breathe life into our country have been signed, said: "All over the world, sensitivity is shown to the issue of global climate change. Our country is also included in this process by signing the Paris Climate Agreement. As a country and nation, we are trying to put forth an effort ahead of the efforts all over the world. During the period of our government, 5 and a half billion saplings were planted. We aim for 7 billion saplings. By planting trees, we are carrying out both a worldly and an ethereal activity. Our lesson here is forest, our subject is green homeland, and our goal is more green homeland. It is admirable that this forest is named after Abdurrahim Karakoç. We expect young people to protect the green of our country and protect its future. We should know our poets and thinkers like Abdurrahim Karakoç. We should read their works."

 

After the speeches, one thousand 500 saplings were planted in the memorial forest created in the name of the late writer and poet Abdurrahim Karakoç.
