'Turkish Women in the 100th Year of the Republic' talk was organized at Selçuk University

Selçuk University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences organized a talk titled "Turkish Women in the 100th Year of the Republic".

Dean of the Faculty Prof. Dr. Mehmet Göküş, academicians and students attended the talk held in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Conference Hall.

Prof. Dr. Hacer Tuğba Eroğlu, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, who participated in the conversation as a speaker, said: "Halide Edip Adıvar, who founded the Taali-i Nisvan Society, Nuriye Ulviye, who founded Müdafaa-i Hukuk-i Nisvan, Bedra Osman, who strived to take part in the Istanbul Telephone Company, are the pioneers of Turkish women who will write their names in golden letters in the history of the world in the War of Independence. In 1933, Turkish women participated in municipal elections for the first time. In 1934, women were also granted the right to vote and be elected. In 1937, the first implementation of the rights recognized in 1934 was held in 1937 and Turkish women were able to enter the Parliament with 18 representatives in these elections."

Stating that according to the data of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the rate of female ambassadors was 11.9 percent in 2011 and 27.2 percent in 2022, Prof. Eroğlu said, "According to higher education statistics, the rate of female professors among professors in the 2021-2022 academic year is 33.2 percent, the rate of women working as associate professors is 40.2 percent, and the rate of women working as lecturers is 50.8 percent. According to the results of the household labor force survey, the rate of women in senior and middle management positions in companies is 20.7 percent in 2021. The number of pilots in the Turkish Airlines staff is 5,736. 5,425 of these pilots are men and 311 are women. There are 4 female F-16 pilots in the Turkish Air Force."
