'Uzbek Literature with Nevai and Shakespeare' lectured at Selçuk University

Selçuk University Faculty of Literature, Department of Comparative Literature organized "Nevai and Shakespeare" and "Uzbek Literature" presentations within the scope of 100 Events in the 100th Anniversary of the Republic.

In the program held in Namik Kemal Amphitheater of the Faculty of Literature, Prof. Dr. Gulnoz Khallieva Iskandarovna from Uzbekistan State University of Jahan Languages made a presentation on "Nevai and Shakespeare" and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turaeva Bahor Bahriddinovna made a presentation on "Uzbek Literature".

Prof. Dr. Gulnoz Khallieva Iskandarovna said that comparative literary studies is a branch of science based on the comparison of two or more literary processes. Stating that the term comparative literature was first used in France and Germany in the 18th century and in Russia in the 19th century, Iskandarovna said that Eastern literature was superior to other literatures.

Iskandarovna made an assessment of the authors of comparative literature in the world and the comparative literature of Turkey and Uzbekistan. Speaking about the works of Ali Shir Navoi and Shakespeare and their similarities, Iskandarovna said: "Both are poets of world literature; the themes of their works are eternal themes such as love, loyalty, friendship. The trinity of lover, mashuka and rival stands at the center of the works of both poets. Navoi and Shakespeare wrote about problems that are still relevant today. That is why their works are always read and always loved. According to both artists, love is the magnificent foundation and summit of perfection and the source of inextinguishable light."

Iskandarovna noted the following about the differences between the two names: "Ali Shir Navoi is the poet of the Eastern Renaissance. He is famous for his Hamse Epics. Eastern thought is at the forefront. The heroes of his works belong to different nations. Shakespeare is the poet of the Western Renaissance. He is famous for his tragedies. Western thought is at the forefront. His heroes are English."

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turaeva Bahor Bahriddinovna also made a presentation on the periods and development of Uzbek literature. Bahriddinovna gave examples from the life and works of different writers, including Ali Shir Navoi, Khoja Ahmad Yassavi, Kashgarli Mahmud, Pahlivan Mahmud, Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur.
