Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, Head of the Department of Skin and Venereology, Prof. Dr. Gülcan Saylam Kurtipek gave a seminar to raise awareness about the diagnosis and treatment of the disease on the occasion of "1 October World Urticaria Day".

Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Mustafa Koplay, Deputy Chief Physicians Assoc. Dr. Murat Gül and Assoc. Dr. Salih Maçin, lecturers, assistant physicians and students attended the seminar held at the Faculty of Medicine Beyhekim Hall.

Prof. Dr. Gülcan Saylam Kurtipek made a presentation on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease popularly known as "hives". Stating that urticaria is a challenging disease, Kurtipek said, “As it becomes chronic in our patients, whose treatment and course lasts longer than 6 weeks, it can affect their work, social and private lives and disrupt their quality of life. On this occasion, my team and I planned to organize an informative event for our patients and physician friends about urticaria disease and its course.”

Stating that it is a disease that can be seen frequently in the society, Kurtipek said that urticaria is a skin disease characterized by itching, redness and blisters. Stating that researches show that 20 - 25 percent of the society may experience an urticaria attack at least once in their lives, Kurtipek said, “The key word for us is that the symptoms disappear within 24 hours. In our clinics, we mark our lesion and plaque and ask our patient to come back to us after 24 hours. Because there are many diseases that look like urticaria, and they can be confused with them. It doesn't just affect the skin. It can affect areas such as eyelids, tongue and lips. It is a disease that can sometimes be accompanied by deep swelling in the hands and feet."

Kurtipek also gave information about the Department of Skin and Venereology, which received the UCARE certificate as of May 2, 2022.

The seminar ended with the screening of the UCARE Türkiye video.
