Selçuk University, under the leadership of the Faculty of Science, planted 600 saplings within the scope of November 11 National Afforestation Day.

Acting Rector of Selçuk University Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Semahat Küçükkolbaşı, Deputy Secretary General Tevfik Sayın, Head of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports Abdullah Özdemir, faculty members, administrative staff and students attended the event held at SU Afrin Martyrs Forest.

Selçuk University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, in his speech at the event, said that they came together on a meaningful day to plant saplings grown by SU Afforestation and Landscape Branch Directorate with the goal of "self-sufficient university". Prof. Dr. Eken stated that they believe that they will contribute to the living space of thousands of living beings with the event organized as a university and said, "One tree, a thousand lives. Because with a sapling planted in the soil, you create a shelter and food environment for thousands of living things. You provide countless benefits to mankind and the universe in terms of ecosystem, especially air purification and oxygen production. Many living things become extinct when trees are cut down due to fire and human factors. With a sapling planted in the soil, you ensure the continuation of the generation. With this awareness, you directly contribute to the ecosystem. In this sense, you cannot be too proud of yourself."

Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Semahat Küçükkolbaşı also stated the importance of the event in terms of preventing the balance of nature that has been disrupted by industrialization, ensuring the balance between air, soil, plants and water, increasing biodiversity and raising environmental awareness. Prof. Dr. Küçükkolbaşı thanked those who contributed to the realization of the program and said, "Dear young people, these saplings we have planted in the soil are entrusted to you, entrusted to our young people who are sensitive to nature. I am sure you will all have this sensitivity. The banners you have prepared are very beautiful, thank you all for your efforts. I thank you very much for your participation and I wish that our event will be a blessing."

Muhammet Efe, a student of the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, stated that they offered a breath of life to nature by bringing saplings to the soil.

After the speeches, 400 cedar and 200 pine saplings were planted in the soil.
