Within the scope of the 100th Anniversary of our Republic and UNESCO Aşık Veysel Year, the opening of the exhibition event titled “Transferring Tradition to the Future | Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Sustaining It in Contemporary Designs”, which was supported by the UNESCO Turkish National Commission with a logo, was held at Dar-ül Mülk Exhibition Center on 28.12.2023 at 11:00 with the contributions of Konya Metropolitan Municipality and the Urban Aesthetics Branch Directorate. The exhibition remained open until the end of January.

Within the scope of the event, the posters “Konya's UNESCO World Heritage | Konya as a Cultural Space” prepared by Prof. Dr. Karakul and the poster designs introducing the elements included in Turkey's UNESCO World Heritage List and Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists prepared by students within the scope of the Restoration and Installation courses Karakul taught at Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts and the Historical Environmental Protection and Restoration courses he taught at Atatürk University Department of Architecture are being exhibited. In addition, the book “UNESCO World Heritage in Turkey”, prepared as a publication of the UNESCO Turkish National Commission under the editorship of Prof. Dr. Özlem Karakul and Prof. Dr. Nevra Ertürk Güngör, was introduced as part of the opening event, and posters for the articles on Wooden Hyposite Mosques, of which Çatalhöyük in Konya and Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Mosque are a part, were also prepared. In addition, posters introducing Turkey’s heritage areas on the UNESCO World Heritage List and Turkey’s elements on the Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists were prepared within the scope of the exhibition.

In addition, as a UNESCO 2023 Aşık Veysel Year event, the Pavilion projects designed in memory of Aşık Veysel, the representative of the Aşık tradition, and posters of Aşık Veysel poems and sculptures inspired by his poems are also included in the exhibition. In the pavilion and sculpture designs, digital design and drawing methods were used together with traditional methods.

Selçuk Fine Arts Faculty academic staff, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Museums Branch Manager and City Aesthetics Branch Directorate staff, Fine Arts Faculty students, experts working in the field of cultural heritage protection in Konya and local people attended the opening ceremony.
