The Selcuk University Plant Breeding and Seed Technology Research Center commenced its activities under the Regulation published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Türkiye, No. 30124, dated July 14, 2017. The Center was established to conduct scientific research to advance plant breeding and seed technologies and to develop scientific and innovative solutions to challenges encountered in agricultural production.

The Center conducts research, application, training, and collaborative activities in plant breeding, seed science and technology, agriculture, and biological sciences. Research activities focus on developing new plant varieties and improving seed technologies through both conventional and modern approaches, as well as adapting newly developed varieties to different environmental conditions. The Center also promotes the preparation and implementation of national and international research projects, supports collaborative research initiatives, and provides scientific and technical assistance to researchers.

The Center places particular emphasis on establishing and strengthening scientific and technical cooperation with national and international institutions and organizations working in plant breeding and seed technology. Within this framework, it organizes training programs, conferences, courses, seminars, and national and international congresses, and supports scientific research and publication activities.

Developing laboratory infrastructure for seed production, testing, analysis, and certification, supporting the activities of researchers and plant breeders, and contributing to the training of qualified professionals required by the plant breeding and seed sectors are among the Center's key priorities. Accordingly, the Center contributes to postgraduate education, encourages students to participate in scientific research, and supports the development of research skills and capacities among young scientists.

The Center also provides analytical, consultancy, and expert services to public institutions and private-sector organizations within the framework of relevant legislation. In addition, it promotes cooperation with farmers and farmers' organizations in production and outreach activities. Through these initiatives, the Center seeks to facilitate the transfer of scientific knowledge generated at the University to agricultural production and the seed sector and to strengthen university–public sector–private sector–producer collaboration.

By closely following scientific and technological advances, the Center aims to become an internationally recognized research center in plant breeding and seed technology, contributing to sustainable agricultural production, the development of new and high-quality crop varieties, and the enhancement of the scientific and technological capacity of Türkiye's seed sector.
