2022-2023 ACADEMIC YEAR OPENING CEREMONY OF SELCUK UNIVERSITY HELD
The 2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Selcuk University was held with the participation of Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ. Minister Bozdag, who spoke highly of Selcuk University from which he graduated, gave important messages in his speech.
“SELÇUK UNIVERSITY HAS BECOME A GIANT OF HIGHER EDUCATION AT INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS”
2022-2023 Academic Year Opening Ceremony of Selcuk University was held at Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center. After a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, it started with a music concert. Making the opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said, “As we enter the new academic year, we see that our University has become a giant of higher education at international standards, with more than 68 thousand students and over 7 thousand staff. With its dormitories, hospital, shopping center, stadium, olympic pool, equestrian facilities and more in its 11 million square meter campus, half of which is covered with green areas, our University has reached the level of being a city on its own. The development and organizational capacity of our university in terms of facilities has also been confirmed by the fact that it could host an international event such as the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, which was completed a while ago.”
“WE EQUIP OUR STUDENTS WITH A SCIENTIFIC FORMATION APPROPRIATE TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE AGE”
Pointing out that universities are not just physical spaces, Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, “Universities gain meaning and value with their academic and administrative staff and students in these physical spaces. The most important of these components that give meaning to the physical spaces of a university are undoubtedly our young people and students, to whom we will entrust the future of Turkiye. In addition, any agent that wants to put a mortgage on the future of a country and detach it from its future vision primarily targets the young people of that country and tries to make the youth of that country a degenerated group, unaware of its history and future. Therefore, our students must be guarded and guided. For this reason, it should be our primary duty to ensure that each of our students, regardless of their scientific discipline, graduates from this school with the equipment and consciousness that has the vision and mission of Turkiye of 2023 and 2071.”
“WE SHOULD PROTECT OUR YOUTH FROM ALL KINDS OF DEGENERATION”
Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy concluded his speech with the following sentences: “A youth who is not at odds with its history, who is aware of whose heirs it is without discriminating between its ancestors, who never accepts insults to its national and moral values, but is stimulated by the strength of these values, is the trustee, architect and protector of the future of Turkiye. it could be. Therefore, as academics, our main duty is to follow current trends in scientific disciplines and make our students qualified individuals, while at the same time protecting our young people from all kinds of degeneration and strengthening their ties with Anatolia. As the university administration, I want you to know that we are with you in the execution of this essential task, with all the means at our disposal.”
“WHEN SELCUK UNIVERSITY IS MENTIONED, A CENTRE OF EDUCATION COMES TO MIND”
Konya Governor Vahdettin Özkan said, “When Selcuk University is mentioned, a centre of education comes to mind. When Konya is mentioned, a city where science, wisdom and professors breathe comes to mind. Today, our academics and teachers continue this tradition with our young people in a very good way. I congratulate all our youth on this occasion. We would like to express our gratitude to all our academicians for their contribution to our students. There is a very good coordination in Konya. Our municipalities, public institutions, professional organizations are in a mobilization to underline the strategies put forward by our government.”
“SELÇUK UNIVERSITY IS ONE OF THE RESPECTED AND BRAND UNIVERSITIES IN TURKIYE AND THE WORLD”
Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ said, “I would like to express that I am very happy to be at the 2022-2023 academic year opening ceremony of the of Selçuk University, of which I am honored to be a member and graduate. Selcuk University has become one of the respected and brand universities not only in Konya, but also in Turkiye and the world. I would like to express my gratitude to those who have contributed to the development of our university since the establishment of it. Our university has made great contributions to the development of science, art and culture in the world and in our country, with the value it attaches to science, culture and art, and the highly qualified people it has trained, and it still continues to offer contributions. I would like to express my gratitude to our academicians who have brought up very successful and highly qualified people to our country. As the Ministry of Justice, we conduct exams for candidacy of judges and prosecutors, and from time to time we conduct exams in other professions. When we analyze the success of the students who took the exam according to faculties and universities, it is possible to see that the Faculty of Law of Selcuk University is generally in the top 5 and mostly in the top 3. This is a great success. Since the success rate of the faculty is among the top 5 among thousands of students, it shows that our students are putting a lot of effort and our valuable academicians who train them are putting a lot of effort. When we look at the order of preference of Selçuk University by our children and the occupancy rate of it, we see that it has gained trust and popularity among people all over Turkiye. Our students, academics, administrators, and the people of Konya have all together contributed to this popularity and trust. Maintaining this popularity and trust, and carrying it forward will undoubtedly add great strength to our University. I am also indebted to all the staff and professors of the University who trained me. God bless them all.”
“TODAY THERE IS A WONDERFUL SELÇUK UNIVERSITY”
Emphasizing that universities are also the power of Turkey and the nation, Minister Bozdag said, “We know that the greatest power in the world is science, knowledge and information. By increasing the number of universities from 76 to 208 in the last 20 years, increasing the number of our students from around 1.5 million to 8 and a half million, and increasing the number of academics from around 66,750 to 184,702, we have placed Turkey in the top ranks in the field of world scientific competition. We aimed to achieve this goal, and hopefully, this cherished nation and state will achieve these goals with your sweatings and efforts. When we were students here, there were no buildings, no place to sit. Today we have a magnificent Selcuk University. I am sure that our new universities will become stronger and grow as time goes on, just like Selçuk University; maybe it will also be instrumental in the birth of new universities. Participating in this scientific competition will not only increase Turkey's visibility, efficiency and power in the world, but it will also contribute greatly to the welfare and development of our country."
At the end of the program, Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy presented a gift to Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ. Minister of Justice Bozdağ later visited Metin Aksoy at the rectorship building of Selcuk University and the protocol members accompanied the visit.
