Volunteer youth of Damla Project were at Selcuk University

Volunteer young people who took part in the Damla Project carried out by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, visited Selçuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy.

The Damla Project, one of the activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is carried out on a voluntary basis. Within the scope of the project, young people come together with disadvantaged families, children and youth, regardless of religion, language and ethnicity. Thus, it is aimed to share cultural values ​​and positively affect young people's perspectives on life.

Each program of the Damla Project consists of teams of 40 local and international students studying at universities in Turkey. Transportation, accommodation and food expenses are covered by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. At the end of the program, participants are given a certificate of participation. Young people who voluntarily participated in the Damla Project met with Selçuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat and General Secretary Prof. Dr.  Kamil Beşoluk.

YOUTH CONTRIBUTES TO CITIES”

Şükrü Bardakcı, Konya Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate Education, Social and Cultural Activities Unit Branch Manager, stated that the students who took part in the project made observations in the cities they visited for 10 days and introduced that city to the world with social media competitions. Our teams contribute to the cities by providing information to the relevant institutions. Our young people have been in Konya for 6 days. At the end of the 10th day, they will go to their hometown. During their stay in Konya, they both find the opportunity to see historical places and take part in social responsibility projects such as painting at schools and care for the disabled.” he said.

Emphasizing that Selçuk University, a well-established university, is the apple of the eye of Konya and Turkey, Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said, “We continue to work on disadvantaged groups with our social responsibility projects. We are a university that continues the madrasah traditions of a city that was the capital of the Seljuks. Our university is getting bigger every day. We provide educational support to many universities in our region. We are a university preferred by successful students that support student projects, provide consultancy services, act quickly, transfer more support to scientific studies, strive to educate students at international standards, meet the society and the city. Our mission is to take students from the regions where the Ottoman borders reached, to reach those regions. Because we are Seljuks, we are Anatolia.” he said.

“WE WORK FOR OUR STUDENTS' DREAMS”

Reminding that Selcuk University Medical Faculty Hospital serves approximately one and a half million patients a year, Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, “There is no special examination before 16.00 in our hospital. Our volunteer physicians conduct free health screenings for our students through the SOBE Foundation. Our institutions exist for the youth, who are the future of this state. We do not save money on projects prepared for the future of our students. We work for the dreams of our students by working day and night. We do not own or support any activity that is contrary to our national and moral values.”
