9th National KOP Regional Development Symposium starts

Organized by the KOP Region Universities Union (UNIKOP) and the KOP Regional Development Administration, the 9th National KOP Regional Development Symposium, of which Selçuk University is also a stakeholder, started with the hosting of Konya Technical University.

Making the opening speech of the 9th National KOP Regional Development Symposium to be held between 24 – 26 October, Konya Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Celik said that in the symposium, agriculture, alternative and developing energy sources, global security, information technologies and cyber security, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear threats, tourism and socioeconomic regional developmental issues will be discussed. Çelik noted that 75 teachers were accepted for presentation from the applications made for the symposium in different places from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

“AN ADDITIONAL RESOURCE OF APPROXIMATELY 1.5 BILLION TL IS PROVIDED”

Murat Karakoyunlu, Deputy Head of the Konya Plain Project (KOP) Regional Development Administration, said, “Our administration, which was established to support rural development, eliminate inequalities between regions and contribute to total development, is working in almost all areas related to regional development from tourism to industry, from energy to health, from the development of human and social infrastructure to the improvement of education and production infrastructure as well as activities such as agriculture and rural development, improvement of disadvantaged areas, agricultural irrigation and animal husbandry under the supervision of the sub-branches two of which are administrative coordinators and four of which are executive coordinators. With more than two thousand projects to date, approximately 1.5 billion TL of additional resource has been brought to the region.”

“WE SHOULD NOT IGNORE SOCIAL AREAS”

Pointing out that farming and animal husbandry should be strengthened, AK Party Konya Deputy Ahmet Sorgun said, “We are in the region with the least rainfall. Accordingly, we need to work on it. Development should not be evaluated only in technical and economic terms; If we miss social areas, we may cease to be ourselves. If technical and physical areas do not combine with social areas, we will not be any different from others.”
