SU brought together 500 saplings to the soil on the National Afforestation Day

500 saplings were brought together with the soil by Selcuk University on the occasion of November 11 National Afforestation Day.

With the circular issued by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, November 11 is celebrated as the "National Afforestation Day" in our country as of November 11, 2019. The theme of this year's National Afforestation Day has been determined as "Breath to the Century of Turkey". In this context, hundreds of thousands of saplings were planted across Turkey at 11.11 am. Selcuk University, which supports the "Breath to the Century of Turkey" theme, brought together 500 cedar saplings in Afrin Martyrs' Forest. Selcuk University Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, Deputy Secretary General Tevfik Sayın, academic and administrative staff and students participated to the event.

“THE BIGGEST THREAT ACCORDING TO WHO CLIMATE IS CHANGE”

In his speech, Selcuk University Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk said, “Besides this, obesity continues to be one of the major threats to human health. But the World Health Organization has pointed to climate change, not epidemics or obesity, as the biggest threat to global health. Forests are one of the important values of our country and like all other values, our forests must be protected carefully.”

“WE ARE ABOVE INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS IN THE GREEN AREA”

Reminding that 11 November was declared as "National Afforestation Day" in our country with the mobilization initiated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prof. Dr. Beşoluk said, “We, as Selçuk University, have implemented many projects as an environmentally conscious and pioneering University in line with this vision put forward by our President. Today, 57 percent of the 11 million square meters of Selcuk University Alaeddin Keykubat Campus consists of green areas. In order to maintain and even increase this level, which is even above the international standards in the green field, our Rector Prof. Dr. We continue our work as the management of Selcuk University, especially Metin Aksoy. Zero waste warehouses that you can see in many places on our campus, electric vehicles we have brought to our university, and the purchase of a security drone that makes it possible to conduct security patrols by reducing carbon footprint are just a few of them. Our work continues for a greener Selcuk University, a greener Konya and Turkey.”

At the end of the program, halva was served to the participants in the sapling planting.
