The winners of the National Short Film and Documentary Competition organized by Selçuk University (SU) Faculty of Communication and Konya Alperen Ocakları Education, Culture and Solidarity Foundation in memory of Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu were announced with a ceremony.

Eight works in the Fiction and Documentary categories, selected among nearly 300 works in the national short film and documentary competition on human, culture and society, received their awards at the ceremony held at the Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center.

Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said that they are pleased to commemorate Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu and his memory with a valuable event on the 13th anniversary of his death. Expressing that Yazıcıoğlu is an exemplary personality with his ideas and actions in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, “In addition to the fact that this event is being held at Selcuk University, it is a pleasure for us to contribute to such an event because he continued to be a patriot who adhered to Turkish-Islamic values throughout his life. His honesty and humane character was appreciated by all.”

SU Communication Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Enderhan Karakoç noted that in addition to being an important political actor, Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu is a patriot, character and intellectual who undertakes a serious mission in society and shapes the society. Stating that the martyrdom of Yazıcıoğlu and his friends as a result of a helicopter accident caused a deep sadness in the Turkish society, Prof. Dr. Karakoç said, “The social aspects of political actors are more important to us. The theme of the short film competition is people, society and culture. While we were determining this, our aim was to bring this aspect of Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu to the fore. Everyone dies, of course, but not everyone lives. Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu left a deep sadness in our lives and in Turkish society. He brought together over 700 thousand people at his funeral.”

Mehmet Akgül, President of Konya Alperen Education, Culture and Solidarity Foundation, said that as an element of non-governmental organizations, they act with the motto of protecting culture, art, people and homeland. Explaining that they consider serving humanity as the most precious value, Akgül said that in this context, the late Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu also carried out important works in non-governmental organizations.
