Selçuk University Museum opened, where approximately 2,500 works of art are exhibited.

Selcuk University (SU) Museum, which is the first in Turkey in terms of collection richness and contains approximately 2,500 works from different continents and civilizations, was opened. The museum collection includes artifacts from Aztec, Inca, Maya, Chinese and Japanese civilizations, as well as some cultures in Africa.

Selcuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the SU Museum, said that Anatolia is a rich geography that has hosted many civilizations. Stating that Çatalhöyük is one of the oldest settlements, one of the most important factors showing the value of Anatolia, Prof. Dr. Aksoy stated that as the patron university of the region, they continue excavations all over Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Aksoy stated that they brought Selçuk University Museum to Konya as a result of a long and meticulous study. Rector Aksoy, who stated that they exhibited an extremely rich collection from Aztec, Inca, Maya, Chinese and Japanese civilizations as well as different cultures in Africa, said, “Selcuk University Museum collection, which has around 2,500 pieces from different continents, civilizations and different periods, is rich in wealth and occupies a unique position in our country. Our museum is a 'first' in Turkey with the breadth of its collection. With the opening of such a museum, Selçuk University not only became one of the rare universities with a museum it showed its pioneering character once again.”

President of YÖK Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar also expressed his pleasure to be at Selçuk University and noted that they came together at an important opening. Prof. Dr. Özvar said, “I will visit our museum for the first time. It is a museum where around 2,500 very important historical objects will be kept and protected and will also serve its followers. Many things can be said about museums, but 'memory' comes to my mind. The memory of humanity, culture, civilization and history. I hope that our museum will bring goodness for our University, our city and our country.”

After the speeches, the opening ribbon was cut. Afterwards, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and the accompanying protocol members toured the Selçuk University Museum. Within the scope of the opening, an exhibition of 46 works prepared by 43 faculty members of the Faculty of Fine Arts in different disciplines was also visited.

In addition to Prof.Dr. Erol Özvar, The President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), who came to Konya for the "Sustainable and Climate Friendly Campus Project Pilot Universities Meeting" hosted by Selçuk University, for the opening ceremony of the museum building YÖK Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Naci Gündoğan, Member of the Executive Board of YÖK Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Karaman, rectors, vice-rectors, deans, principals, academic and administrative staff and students of the universities where the pilot application was initiated.
