Selçuk University organizes many activities for disaster affected children

Within the scope of the workshops conducted by Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts and Dilek Sabancı State Conservatory in KYK student dormitories, disaster-affected children produced earthenware pots and participated in drama and Turkish folk dances.

                                     "WE WORK TO MAKE OUR CHILDREN HAPPY"

Prof. Dr. Zuhal Türktaş, Deputy Dean of Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts, said, "Since our students are in disadvantaged groups, they have some problems with connecting to life, being happy, and spending the day more enjoyable beyond the education curriculum. We think that art is a rehabilitation tool. We started our work to make our children happy and to make them forget their pain to some extent. We contributed to both the making and creation stages of our children. We helped them spend the day efficiently by utilizing the healing power of art."

                            "WE AIMED TO HIGHLIGHT THE HEALING POWER OF ART"

Selçuk University Dilek Sabancı State Conservatory Director Prof. Dr. Dilek Zerenler said, "We are carrying out a joint work with the Faculty of Fine Arts. Our aim is to reveal the healing power of art in this difficult process. We aimed to emphasize the healing power of art for children to get away from the traumas they have experienced and to express themselves beautifully. Our activities in the workshop will continue as long as our earthquake victims stay here. We carry out these activities with the support of our professors who are trained in educational sciences and pedagogy. Many of our teachers support us voluntarily. In addition to drama, folk dances and music activities, we aim to organize two Sufi and two Turkish art music concerts for families during Ramadan."
