Selçuk University produces an average of 65 thousand plants annually

The greenhouses at Selçuk University, which has the 431st greenest campus in the world, produce an average of 65 thousand plants annually. Approximately 20 kinds of plants are utilized at Alaeddin Keykubat Campus.

Selçuk University Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, together with Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat and Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, examined the production greenhouses within the Green Areas Branch Directorate.

Muttalip Erdem, Acting Director of the Green Areas Branch, said that the maintenance of all green areas in Alaeddin Keykubat Campus, planting and pruning trees, spraying, mowing grass, watering, creating new landscaping areas, installing automatic irrigation systems and combating weeds are being carried out.

Stating that there are two production greenhouses of 250 square meters each and production is carried out in four seasons, Erdem said, “Approximately 20 types of plants such as roses, gavura, taflan, geranium, echinacea, lily of the valley and daisies are grown in these greenhouses to be used in Alaeddin Keykubat Campus and every year an average of 65 thousand plants are produced. Alaeddin Keykubat Campus is one of the largest green areas in Konya. We set an example for other institutions with the work we carry out. An exemplary campus was created. "Our greenhouses, where tree bark and animal manure are used to increase productivity, are also an application area for our students."
