Significant contribution to health science from Selçuk University

Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Midwifery Lecturer Assoc. Dr. The project titled "The Effect of Peanut Ball Use on Birth Memory, Birth Satisfaction, Birth Process and Newborn APGAR Score; Randomized Controlled Study" prepared by Assoc. Dr Seyhan Çankaya, Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Midwifery Lecturer, was entitled to be supported by the Turkish Health Institutes.

The caesarean section rate in Türkiye reached 53 percent. This figure is higher than all European Union countries. The rate recommended by the World Health Organization is between 5 percent and 15 percent. Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Midwifery Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Seyhan Çankaya prepared a project called "The Effect of Peanut Ball Use on Birth Memory, Birth Satisfaction, Birth Process and Newborn APGAR Score; Randomized Controlled Study" in order to help prefer normal birth.

The project, which includes researching the effect of using peanut balls during labor on birth memory, birth satisfaction, birth process and health status of the newborn, aims to increase positive birth memory of birth, develop positive birth perception, ensure birth satisfaction of expectant mothers and shorten birth times.

Assoc.Dr.Seyhan Çankaya said, “The project will be carried out in the birth clinic of a hospital where midwives perform normal births.Expectant mothers admitted to the clinic will be divided into experimental and control groups.First, the positions to be used with the peanut ball will be shown practically by the researchers to the pregnant women assigned to the peanut ball group, and these positions will be performed during the labor process.Pregnant women in the control group will not receive any intervention other than midwifery care for routine labor.Pregnant women in both groups will be followed by researchers throughout the labor process and after birth, and the pregnant women will not be left alone."

Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof.Dr.Emine Arslan said, “Our Midwifery Department has a strong academic staff.We provide our undergraduate and graduate education at the Selçuk Pharmacy Simulation Unit affiliated with our faculty.The Center, which is located in only a few universities in Türkiye, also hosts many national projects.This project, conducted by Assoc.
