Doctors of the future took their first steps into the profession
Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine 2023 - 2024 Academic Year White Coat Wearing Ceremony was held. During the ceremony, 245 students were excited to wear white coats.
Selçuk University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken said at the ceremony held at Sultan Alparslan Cultural Center that the University is a well-established educational institution with a history of nearly 50 years. Stating that Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine ranked 6th in the ÖSYM preference list this year, Prof. Dr. Eken said that in addition to academic and scientific achievements, they have achieved important degrees in national and international competitions, especially TEKNOFEST.
Prof. Dr. Eken stated that Selçuk University has experienced a significant rise in the rankings of international rating agencies and said, "We have a Faculty that has a voice in the world with its vaccine studies. On the other hand, our Faculty of Medicine, whose performance especially in terms of education is dazzling, won 3 awards at TEKNOFEST. On the other hand, our hospital serves both our province and our region in the field of health and makes important contributions. It works day and night. It serves an average of 4 thousand patients daily and there is a circulation of close to 30 thousand with their relatives. These numbers are one of the best indicators of the contribution of our Faculty of Medicine Hospital to the region. At the same time, our students receive practical training. On the one hand, it means that they will gain experience and become the best in their fields."
Prof. Dr. Eken added that as the University, they show sensitivity to issues that concern the society and that healthcare professionals worked devotedly during the pandemic and the February 6 earthquake.
Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selvi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Selçuk University, said that they aim for students to have a common sense, critical perspective and to graduate with respect and competence. Prof. Dr. Selvi stated that they aim for students to work not only for Turkey but also for the whole world and said: "We think that our students should think about wherever there is an oppressed person, wherever there is a person in need of help, identify them, create public opinion and go to help them. That is why we are trying to train international physicians. Today, there are doctors from Selçuk University in Africa. We have physicians who carry out first aid activities and teach this to the people there. Last year, we had physicians working in Azaz and Idlib in Syria. We had physicians and professors who gave training to the paramedics there. We want to train our students not only in our country for 6 years, but also all over the world so that 'wherever there is an oppressed person in need of help, wherever there is an oppressed person, we want them to see them, run to help them, and make their voices louder'."
After the speeches, gifts were presented to the students who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine. Afterwards, 245 students were given their white coats.
