Selçuk University Faculty of Tourism will train chefs for Turkish and world cuisine

Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Application Kitchen, which was brought to Selçuk University Faculty of Tourism, was opened with the participation of Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy. The kitchen, which has 80 hotplates, 20 independent workbenches, 20 ovens and grills, offers students the opportunity to transform their theoretical knowledge into practice.

Speaking at the opening programme of the Application Kitchen of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism Prof. Dr. Onur Köksal said, "I would like to thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, who gave us the opportunity to serve, and our philanthropic businessmen who supported the process. We are leaving a kitchen where our students can train themselves. Our dream and goal is to train masters and chefs who can work not only in Turkey but also in the world, and to carry the brand of Selçuk University and the Faculty of Tourism to the whole world. We trust our students very much."

Rector of Selçuk University Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy said: "We must have a work to leave to future generations. We set out to raise a strong university and a strong generation if we proceed on a target. We opened the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Application Kitchen with the support of our businessmen to serve our students and academicians without burdening our state. Selçuk University is among the universities that receive the highest number of donations in Turkey. This is important because our society trusts us."

Prof. Dr. Aksoy said, "You cannot train a cook or a dentist without an application area. Selçuk University should be such a university that it brings together theory on one side and practice on the other. I believe that in the near future, the achievements of our university in international rankings will also be recognised by YÖK. I wish that our Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Application Kitchen will be beneficial."

After the speeches, business people who contributed to the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Application Kitchen were given a plaque of appreciation and the opening ribbon was cut.

Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy served chicken pasta with curry sauce to the guests.

Selçuk University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Emrullah Eken, Prof. Dr. İlhan Çiftci and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Polat, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Kamil Beşoluk, Deputy Secretary Generals Hikmet Özdemir and Tevfik Sayın, faculty deans, college and vocational school directors, department heads, academicians and students attended the opening programme.

In the Practical Kitchen of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, where there are 80 hobs, 20 independent work benches, 20 ovens and grills where each student can practice individually, there are practice stations where at least 20 students can work individually and at least 40 students can work in groups of two students.
