"Watching Together for our Green Future!" project at Selcuk University

Selçuk University Beyşehir Ali Akkanat Faculty of Tourism is bringing its students together with films and documentaries in order to instil environmental awareness and draw attention to climate change within the scope of the project "We Watch Together for Our Green Future!".

In the first event of the project, the 2016 documentary "Before the Flood", in which environmental activist, United Nations climate change ambassador and Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio drew attention to global warming and climate change, was brought together with the students.

Selçuk University Beyşehir Ali Akkanat Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Abdullah Karaman said that within the scope of the project, they aimed not only to have fun but also to develop sensitivity towards environmental problems. Stating the importance of raising awareness and taking action for environmental protection and climate change, Karaman said, "Let us not forget that the environment is not an inheritance to us, but a sacred responsibility that should be entrusted to future generations. Internalising this great responsibility in tourism and acting as a conscious tourist will affect your future success. When you go to a region, acting not only as a tourist, but also as an environmentally friendly and culturally respectful visitor is one of the important steps to be taken to make tourism sustainable."

Karaman stated that they planned a screening every two weeks within the scope of the project, which includes 10 films and documentaries.

Within the framework of the project, the participants will be given an "Environmental Awareness / Green Journey Certificate" by the Faculty.
