The injured golden eagle is being treated at Selcuk University

A golden eagle, found motionless in Konya’s Meram district and brought to Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital, has been taken under treatment. 
Clinical and radiological examinations revealed gunshot pellets in its head and a fracture in its bone. The eagle is expected to be released back into its natural habitat within ten days.

Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Alkan, Chief Physician of Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital, stated that under the protocol signed with the Konya Regional Directorate of Forestry for wildlife conservation, the hospital undertakes the treatment of animals brought in by both citizens and relevant institutions.

On February 2, a golden eagle found by residents in Meram district and brought to the hospital underwent clinical and radiological examinations. The tests revealed an old fracture in its right wing bone and a pellet lodged in its head. Stating that the pellet was not in a life-threatening area and did not affect vital functions, Prof. Dr. Alkan explained, “After conducting flight trials, we plan to release the eagle once it is capable of surviving independently in the wild.”

Once the eagle's treatment and rehabilitation process is complete, it will be handed over to the Regional Forestry Directorate teams and released into its natural habitat.

Prof. Dr. Alkan noted that golden eagles are primarily used for wolf hunting in Central Asian countries such as Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, while they also have natural habitats in Turkey. He added, “Citizens who encounter such animals can bring them to our hospital for treatment. No fees are charged for this service.”
