The Department of German Language and Literature, which accepts 60 students for daytime education, and 60 students for evening education from German, English and French languages each year, is one of the seventeen departments of the faculty of Letters in Selçuk University.
In this department at which contemporary linguistics and literature education are given, the education period is 4 years. In addition to that, preparatory education is provided at the School of Foreign Languages.
Students, who cannot score 70 points in the placement test held by the School of Foreign Languages will attend the preparatory program held by the School of Foreign Languages and will study there for one year. At the end of the preparatory class, the students who pass the German Preparatory Proficiency Exam successfully will start their undergraduate education.
Being the language of instruction, German language is a decisive feature of the Department of German Language and Literature. The Department has 2 professors, 2 doctorate lecturers, 2 associate professor and 2 research assistant.
An academic year in the Faculty of Letters consists of two semesters each lasting 15 weeks. The German Language and Literature undergraduate program is completed in 4 years (8 semesters). Students, who are able to complete all courses given for 8 semesters successfully, graduate from the Department of German Language and Literature. These students get a bachelor’s degree and are entitled to receive the title of Philologist. The Department of German Language and Literature aims to teach and provide research in the fields of German literature and culture, literary theories and linguistics. The courses offered in the department prepare students for graduate programs and professional careers.
