About

 In our country, education in the field of "Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage" is carried on under the departments of various faculties (Literature, Science and Literature, Fine Arts and Architecture) such as “ Conservation and Restoration of Movable Cultural Heritage” undergraduate programs, in some Faculties of Architecture“ Restoration” programs and some Vocational Colleges under different names within the scope of associate degree programs. The Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, which was established within the Faculty of Literature, at Selçuk University, is a four-year undergraduate program that will provide training for the protection and restoration of movable and immovable cultural properties. The main fields of study to be given within the scope of this undergraduate program are to identify and document the movable/immovable cultural assets and artifacts, deterioration situations, and factors, identify possible factors that may cause problems, and develop appropriate protection and repair methods and applications. Our department aims to preserve and restore the works within the scope of cultural assets with scientific methods in national and international conservation principles and basic approaches and standards in a healthy way. In addition to the training program to be given for its vision and mission, the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage aims to carry out scientific research and application projects, publications, scientific meetings and workshops, and similar activities. Graduates of the  "Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage” will receive the title of “Conservator-Restorer" with their license diploma.

 

Purpose

The aim of the training program, which will be given at the "Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage", is to have the knowledge and skills to conduct the necessary research and applications in the field of conservation and restoration, and to conduct studies at national and international standards and interdisciplinary level;  to train qualified professionals who have the abilities of problem-solving, research, method development and application and process management to continue successfully, and are bound by scientific principles and professional ethics.  

 

Vision

To be a department that educates conservators and restorers who have the knowledge and skills to make necessary research and applications in the field in accordance with scientific developments, are capable of providing interdisciplinary working skills with the sensitivity of ethical principles and follow the developments and principals in the field of conservation and restoration is the department's main purpose.

 

Mission

To contribute to the field by raising qualified conservator-restorers within the scope of the protection and restoration of movable/immovable cultural assets, a modern educational program that monitors and adjusts the developments in our country and the world is capable of working interdisciplinary, having the necessary knowledge and skills in theory and practice, depending on the need for professional ethics and protection.  

 

Definition of program

"Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage Department" is a four-year undergraduate program aiming to provide training for protecting and restoring movable and immovable cultural properties.

 

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of  "Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage Department" will have the title of “Conservator-Restorer" and gain employment opportunities in various public and private institutions including the Regional Laboratory Directorates of Restoration and Conservation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, National Palaces, Conservation Application Inspection Bureaus of Municipalities, Libraries, Foundations, Archaeological Excavations, Museums, Construction Sites, etc. s.
