Medicinal Plants

Medicinal and aromatic plants have been used to seek food, spice, medicine, cosmetics, and healing for centuries. According to WHO data, about 20000 plants use as a medicinal plants. There are over 12000 plant species and 3700 endemic plants from these plants in our country, and about 400 endemic plants use to aim medicinal plants. However, Turkey is among the leading countries in medicinal and aromatic plants thanks to its geographical location, wide area, climate conditions, and plant diversity. In addition to the lack of a standard classification of medicinal and aromatic plants, they can generally be grouped according to their families, active ingredients, consumption and use, organs used, and pharmacological effects. Considering the increasing popularity of medicinal plants in recent years, the potential of our country in terms of medicinal plants is even more critical. This information reveals the importance of the Division of Medicinal Plants more clearly.

The Division of Medicinal Plants studies on the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and endemic plants, their cultivation, the introduction of medicinal plants, laboratory studies on medicinal plants, the use of herbs and drugs obtained from these plants, and product development.
